Title Match in Hakes' Hands

This Saturday 19th March the Hakes could secure their place as Champions of the Cornwall Kernow League (CKL) Group 1 when they play the return match against Camborne School of Mines. This would be a unique double since this is the first such playing of this league. St Ives had a commanding victory against 'School of Mines' at home by 45 points to nil last Saturday. Another bonus point win will put the Hakes in an unassailable position at the top of the league.

Redruth are the only side with any chance of catching the Hakes, but this is only mathematical. St Ives have two matches in hand over them. The setting up of the CKL had its share of doubters, but it has proved invaluable the St Ives' senior rugby. With the club having to rebuild from the very bottom tier in Cornwall 2, the CKL has provided more regular rugby and stiffer opposition. This has given the young, committed squad an awareness of the higher level of competition coming their way in September at the start of a new season.

Champagne and beer glasses are 'on hold', but the progress of the club this season is a cause for much encouragement going forward.

The remaining fixtures in CKL Gp 1 all feature St Ives in away games as follows:

  • Saturday 19th March: Camborne School of Mines v St Ives

  • Saturday 26th March: Redruth II v St Ives

  • Saturday 2nd April: Illogan Park v St Ives

There is also an Easter fixture with Imperial Medics visiting the town on Sunday 17th April with a 3:00pm kick off.
