St Ives begin new season well
As supporters will be aware, St Ives have had to rejoin the rugby union leagues at level one, i.e. Tribute Cornwall 2. This league has 6 clubs. The Tribute Cornwall League 2 has the potential to give each club ten fixtures before Christmas. but after a long lay off through Covid some will find it difficult to regularly field a team. St Ives have also registered for the Cornwall Duchy league for club second teams. It may not be possible to participate in both leagues on the same day, but this should however facilitate everyone who trains getting a game. No doubt it will draw a few retired players out of the woodwork!
Unable to accommodate St Ives on the first Saturday of the new season Redruth Albany conceded for an away w/o. Meanwhile The Hakes fielded a 2nd XV against Penryn 2nd XV on the same day, Saturday 11th September. After much promise in the pre-season with good numbers attending training, new coach Jamie Prisk hoped for a solid performance. This he got in spades with a 58 - 10 win. St Ives played away to Stithians on Saturday 18th September and gained a handsome victory by 0 - 65 in their first Cornwall 2 fixture, a great start.
This coming Saturday St Ives entertain St Just, which will prove a stronger test. St Just easily defeated Redruth Albany 49 -10, having lost their opening league game to Perranporth, who have amassed 71pts in their first two outings and remain unbeaten.
