League Changes for New Season
The RFU have re-organised the league system which will effect St Ives in the coming season, 2022-23.
Without any changes St Ives would have been promoted to the Cornwall One league to play clubs they had remained unbeaten against throughout last season. This would have diminished the competitive nature of their fixtures. In the new system they will be in the Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall league (no marks for originality there), as one of 12 teams comprising:
Bodmin (Champions of Cornwall 1) Camborne School of Mines (Runners up from Cornwall 1)
Hayle (relegated from Cornwall & Devon league)
Helston (4th in Cornwall 1)
Illogan Park (3rd in Cornwall 1)
Liskerd-Looe (re-aligned from Cornwall & Devon league)
Newquay Hornets (relegated from Cornwall & Devon league)
Redruth II (Winners of Duchy League West for 2ndXVs)
Saltash (re-aligned from Cornwall & Devon league)
St Austell II (Winners of Duchy League East for 2ndXVs)
St Ives (SW) (Champions of Cornwall 2, winners of Cornwall Kernow league)
Veor (re-aligned from Cornwall & Devon league)
So, in summary: 5 from Cornwall & Devon bottom half of the table, top 4 from Cornwall 1, 2 from Duchy and 1 from Cornwall 1.
Progression through the levels and the names of the levels have changed. This certainly suits St Ives. For Cornish clubs this is the route through the various levels. Note that from level 5 and below the leagues consist of 12 teams.
Counties 3 Tribute Cornwall = level 9
Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall = 8
Counties 1 Tribute Western West = 7
Regional 2 Tribute South West = 6
Regional 1 South West = 5
National League 2 West = 4
National League 1 = 3
RFU Championship = 2
Premier League = 1
