Former Club Archivist & Record Keeper Dies
Peter James has sadly passed away.
Although never involved on the playing side, he was an ever present supporter of the club until illness abrubtly ended this. His legacy will be the meticulous playing records he kept of all the teams during the 1970s and 1980s. The ledgers he spent so many hours producing week by week each season are now located in the St Ives library.
The photos here are just a sample of the pages of records he recorded. In these smaller A6 note books Peter also recorded all the results from Cornish clubs together with their scorers. Every Cornwall game is recorded with home and away teams, clubs
represented and points scored. Every home international match is recorded with the same thorough approach. All this before the days of an Excel spreadsheet. Every little piece of history hand written. It is a remarkable archive.
One hopes that some of the sample of records shown in the photos below will evoke many memories, some long forgotten. In the 1979-80 season 79 players turned out on at least one occasion for The Nomads, eight of whom had played for Cornwall. Peter James is the one we have to thank for this historic collection.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Peter’s family and especially his wife Joy.
